McKenna's Position on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "a really big football club" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old took charge of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy twelfth place in the Championship.

"I have not had any of those discussions," the English capital native ex- Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my focus is this week.

"I have a special job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my radar."

Context and Agreement Aspects

It has been suggested that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about those. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and announce what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive football club."

McKenna agreed to a new multi-year deal in last year and was questioned about his alleged £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I'm unaware what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this job like I'll be Town's coach indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I'll always give maximum effort as long as I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Wales forward is inclined to complete the current World Cup campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.

Wales are currently third in their qualifying group behind leaders the Red Devils and runners-up Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and North Macedonia in November would book their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but assured of reaching that stage, due to a successful European competition campaign, should they not end up Group J runners-up.

Considering his present position, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the play-offs at the minimum.
