Two Victims Identified in Brown University Shooting as Authorities Continue Manhunt for Gunman.

The pair of scholars who died in Saturday’s violent attack at Brown University were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their shooter continued following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the sole person of interest in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, the group said. The White House press secretary also posted words of sorrow publicly, remarking: “Words cannot express. Remembering her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.

The victim's identification was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a man aged 24 arrested in a search at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our community”.

The gunman began shooting inside a room in the building on over the weekend, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a authority told the news agency.

Officers that raided the inn found a pair of pistols and magazines when the individual was taken into custody, the news agency reported.

The Wounded Victims

Of the nine hurt, one student was discharged from care, said Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in critical but stable condition, and another was critically ill, police said on Sunday.

A private school, a private academy in the city of Durham, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Further Tributes

Tributes were paid to Cook at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only during her upbringing... but at Brown she was a shining example in that institution as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the group. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she aided her club and other students,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by Umurzokov’s death in a tribute. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, friends, and fellow students and grieve for of his bright future.”

National Context

The fatal shooting at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US university with about 7,300 undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 mass shootings reported in the US so far in the current year, according to statistics. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
