The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
