Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
