2K Hires Apex Legends Developer to Boost Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Follows Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last autumn.
Recently, 2K president a key figure updated employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the requirement for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to address gamer demands.
Trend of Key Hires
This announcement mirrors a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete message from the president's announcement:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to continue.”
With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a sharper brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to heart and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s positioned to fulfill its promise to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the new Lead of the team. Following some time of talks, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.
His management and expertise in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having dedicated the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting Ben next week. We are all eager to keep seeing the progress of the game in the time to follow.
David

Game Information and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a public demo. Initially, the developers presented the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the description reads. "Face the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that evolve every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or aim high, risk it all, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is in your hands."
Project Ethos does not have an announced debut schedule or platforms, but players can look forward to further news as production advances.
